The PCI Data Security Standard
In order to safeguard cardholder data, Visa and MasterCard have established a common industry security requirement, the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. All members, merchants and service providers that store, process or transmit cardholder data are required to abide by the standard's requirements. The new standard aligns Visa's Cardholder Information Security Program (CISP) and MasterCard's Site Data Protection (SDP) Program. Other card companies operating in the United States have also endorsed the PCI Data Security Standard within their own programs. These include American Express, Discover, JCB and Diners Club.
The PCI Data Security Standard (replaces Visa CISP & MasterCard SDP) consists of 12 requirement categories that must be met by merchants and service providers that store, process or transmit credit card information. Payment Processing, Inc is PCI compliant.
